My room is colder than the rest of the apartment... perhaps a sign I should get off my ass and get on with the housework? Nah.

This has turned out to be a weekend of many exciting out-of-town guests. First PW showed up at dance on Friday (helping to compensate for the absences of Kelilah and Letzan, sniff; it was a really good dance, too). Then JM came over to hang out in advance of Sofer's storyreading, and later storyreading managed to acquire one EM! Nifty in-town people showed up as well, so it was a lovely long day of hanging out filled with things like our plan to dip Sofer's brain in an inkwell, and JM and I getting distracted from a conversation by the kicking feet of EM finding something funny and being unable to remember what we had been talking about... and my later recollection that what we had been talking about was in fact how JM didn't want total recall ::grin::. And discussing with EM how it would be interesting to throw actual birds into the tar pits, to see how fast they'd sink, and whether they could get out, but that possibly we'd have to settle for bricks and wind-up toys.

Also some actual stories got read; JDMS read a Wimsey story that reconfirmed my need to read some Sayers, and JM read something rather thought-provoking about a traveler in Bali having to claim a goofy pin was a powerful amulet to convince a bunch of vampire-spooked locals he wasn't suspicious, and EM read something hilarious about carnivore biologists (also now on the must-read list) and Sofer read something odd and intriguing about philosophers and German families, sort of.

Also I did not in fact completely forget about Vericon! Somewhere in the middle of the afternoon hanging-out Kelilah had to leave, giving me the opportunity to get to Harvard Square quickly. The Vericon website had gotten the signing times wrong so I ended up hanging out in Million Year Picnic for awhile skimming JMS's graphic novel (Midnight Nation? it was pretty moving actually) and then reading the Tick comic about the gazillion ninja while standing in line - honestly, it was worth it for that alone, that's one of the funniest things I ever read and I don't know why I didn't buy it. Next time I'm in MYP.

Anyways, I did finally make it to the front of the line (and got to see Charles Vess drawing something elaborate in someone's big hardbound in passing) only to remember that I turn into a total stammering moron when confronted with the opportunity to talk to People Whose Work I Admire, in this case T Campbell, writer of Fans!. I managed to get out something like "I'm a big fan of Fans!", and then, by looking through the old paper issues of Fans! he had to see which one I'd want to buy to get signed while the next guy talked to him, managed to gather my scattered wits enough to exchange a few words about what he has planned for Fans!. Which actually was really interesting, just that little bit of information about how he thinks about the story arcs and eventually wrapping it up and stuff (which maybe I would know if I ever read the message board any more, but I just don't), but, I don't know, I wish I had been able to think of some actual adjectives to tell him what I thought was so cool about Fans. Oh well. There's always email, and, I'd like to think that just making the effort to go down there and be an admiring face counts for something. I mean, I feel it's nice, and important, and A Good Thing, for artists to know people appreciate their work... especially webcomics authors who probably aren't earning much from it... this is of course why I haven't written any fanfic feedback in months. ::SIGH:: Anyways, did not go see Patricia Wrede, since I didn't feel like going through that whole thing again, and I wanted to get back to storyreading.

Okay, and now maybe some housework.

This is a couple months old; I think at the time I decided it should never see the light of day. But really, what fun is that?

I have this dim recollection that Rhoddlet features into the idea for this somewhere, like she made some crack about the horribleness of baby fics or something. I dunno; maybe I was just trying to write a pregnancy fic with redeeming qualities, I don't really remember.

In any case, my first and hopefully last HP baby!fic )
